Steven Spielberg vs. George Lucas
The movie industry is our world’s entertainment source. Without it we would not have nearly as much imagination as we do now. Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are two famous movie producers. They share similar qualities and possess the same goals. Spielberg has one of the most influential film personalities and he is one of the wealthiest filmmakers in the world. George Lucas is famous for his well-known movies, Star Wars. Although both men are involved in the movie making industry they come from different backgrounds, and they have different styles of film making.
George Lucas, a diabetic, was raised in Modesto California. His father was a stationary store owner and he had three siblings. Growing up, especially in high school, Lucas dreamed of being in drag car racing. His plans were to become a famous racecar driver. These dreams were later crushed after a severe car accident that caused Lucas to change his views on life. This led him to enrolling in the University of Southern California film school where he began he interest in film making. Throughout his career, Lucas made many films and his most well-known film was Star wars.
Steven Spielberg is known as one of the wealthiest film makers in the world. Spielberg was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1946. He attended California State University Long Beach but later dropped out to pursue his entertainment career. He was always interested in the film/entertainment industry. Spielberg’s first major directional effort was The Sugarland Express (1974). This film marked him as a rising star, & allowed him to become an international superstar among directors. However if Spielberg feels the work is not meeting his standards he will back out and remove his name as a producer. His dog Elmer starred in several of his films including Jaws (1975) and Close Encounters of the third kind (1977). Spielberg’s father served in the World War II in South East Asia.
Lucas and Spielberg both used their many talents to create and direct successful movies that have changed America. Lucas created Star Wars that was a huge success and Spielberg has created numerous amounts of movies that have all been successful. Both film makers have made a difference in our world by expressing their love and talent and creating movies that have fascinated our world today.
Lucas states, “I am the father of our Star Wars (1977) movie world - the filmed entertainment, the features and now the animated film and television series. And I'm going to do a live-action television series. Those are all things I am very involved in: I set them up and I train the people and I go through them all. I'm the father; that's my work. Then we have the licensing group, which does the games, toys and books, and all that other stuff. I call that the son - and the son does pretty much what he wants. Then we have the third group, the Holy Ghost, which are the bloggers and fans. They have created their own world. I worry about the father's world. The son and holy ghost can go their own way.”
Lucas creates movies that are fictional and have a unique yet different and strange story line that fascinate viewers. He captures their attention by using his creativity and using it to appeal to the audience.
Spielberg states, “I think that the Internet is going to effect the most profound change on the entertainment industries combined. And we're all gonna be tuning into the most popular Internet show in the world, which will be coming from some place in Des Moines. We're all gonna lose our jobs. We're all gonna be on the Internet trying to find an audience.”
He feels that if movies were taken away what we people would have left for entertainment. It is sad that had to depend on Movies and TV so much to the point where if we don’t have it we are not capable of entertaining ourselves.
Lucas and Spielberg share a lot of similarities and differences, more so similarities since they are in the movie making industry, they’re different styles of movie making and creative work have attracted many people and fans that love watching their movies/or shows.
